Akebono has freshened with her mother’s beautiful mammary system, strength, width, and level topline. After an extremely rough kidding as a yearling, she bounced back and delighted us with our first milking class win at a National Show in the very competitive Alpine breed. Akebono freshened with triplets in February as a 2-year old and finished her championship in her first show of the season. She placed 2nd/2nd udder at the National Show She milked well over 3000 lbs as a 3 yr old and is easily onto her 2nd 3000 lb+ lactation in 2019. She was been Best in Show 3 times in 2019 and capped her year off with a Best Udder in Show win at the very competitive MN State fair . She milked through in 2020 and freshened in 2021 with triplets by Freeze Frame, milking more than she ever has producing nearly 18 lbs/day. We believe having a year off gave her the chance to add extra weight to her frame that she traditionally milks off and looking better than ever at the 2021 National show, she was named National Champion and Best Udder. A month later she appraised 94 EEEE, joining only two other Alpines to score that high. She capped off her year with a Best Senior Doe in Show and Best Udder in Show win at the competitive Minnesota State Fair, as well as winning Highest Lifetime Production at the show, at over 17,000 lbs to date. She ended her year just 30 lbs shy of 4000 lbs. We are so proud of Akebono and honored to have her in our herd.
We retained her son, Akimoto for ourselves and Anita from 2021 as she is proving to be a valuable brood doe, with 2 champion daughters, Akeelah and Amal, and she and her daughter, Amal, were 1st place dam and daughter at the 2021 National Show. Three of her 4 daughters (the 4th was sold as a yearling due to a leg injury) have records over 3000 lbs by the age of 3. Amal also appraised VEEE 91 at 2 years old and Anita also appraised 91 VEEE at 3 years old. In 2021, Akebono aborted quads on Christmas, and was dry for the year. In 2023, she had triplets by Windrush SL Invictus and her yearling daughter freshened with a lovely udder. She was back on top of the milking string at 8 years old, milking 15-16 lbs and milking just under 4000 lbs at 8 and on top of that was Best Senior doe in show and Best Udder in Show again at the Minnesota State Fair. Akebono freshened for the last time this year at 9 as she has had some trouble passing her placenta’s the past two years, but has recovered well and we plan to retain both of her doelings this year. At likely her last show, she earned Best udder in Show at the Minnesota State Fair in 2024. We do continue to plan to milk her to add to her lifetime total.

Amal is very balanced and deep bodied doe. Her mammary system is very well attached and similar to her dam and maternal line. She was named the All American yearling in 2021. She was 4th place with 3rd udder 2 yr old at the 2021 National show and part of the 1st place Dam and Daughter with Akebono. She finished her championship at the age of 2 years old and has appraised 91 each of time she has been appraised at 2, 4 and 5 years. In 2023, she was 4 x GCH and BOB and 2 x Best Senior Doe in Show of 5 times shown. She topped the 4 year old class at Minnesota State Fair and was named Senior Champion in a competitive, large Alpine Show. In 2024, Amal placed 4th with 1st place udder 5-6 year old does at the National show and once again appraised 91 EEEE at the age of 5 years old. She was 1st place age doe and a part of all of our 1st place groups at the MN State Fair including Dam and Daughter, Breeder’s Trio and Dairy Herd. Amal will be bred to Invictus once again this fall as we love her doeling by him.

September 2021
Anita is a a huge, powerful, incredibly dairy doe. She has a stacked pedigree with her dam the 2021 National Champion/Best Udder and and her sire the Premier Alpine Sire, who also sired the Jr. National Champion. As a yearling, after triplets and being a fast growing yearling, she had some bowing in her rear legs and so we decided to milk her through over having late kids. This was beneficial for Anita to continue to fill out her massive frame. In 2023, she was shown 6 x and she was 1 x 1st and 1 x GCH, 2 x 2nd, 3 x 3rd-all to her herdmates. She finished that lacation with 6300 lbs of milk. Anita had two bucks (and later delivered a dead doe) and has already had 4 tests between 16-18.1 lbs pounds and is projected over 4000 lbs this year. She earned a 2nd leg in July and was 2nd place 3 year old at the Minnesota State Fair. She also appraised 91 VEEE in August. She has been AI’d to Pleasant Grove Saga Money this fall.

Annie- 1 month fresh
Kara Kahl Handy Annie is our American girl. She was all legs at first but is deepening out into her body and we are excited to see how she continues to mature and freshen next year. She placed 1 x 1st, 3 x 2nd at the Bluff Country Fall Show. Her 3 yr old dam, Kara Kahl PGW Annika, appraised VEEE 90 and is a full sister to Akebono. Her sire, SG +*B Tempo Aquila Handyman, sired two does in the top 5 at the 2021 Nationals, including one of my personal favorites of Laurie’s, the Alpine Total Performer and 2nd place 5-6 yr old, SGCH Tempo Aquila Mazzei, 4-6 EEEE 93. Annie freshened in July with a lovely mammary, milking 11.2 lbs on her first test. . She was reserve twice to a finished champion at the Bluff Country Show, earning a milking restricted leg. As a 2 year old, Annie again is milking great. At her first show in 2023 she was 2 x 1st, 1 GCH/BOB/Best Udder and Best doe in Show! In 2024, Annie has been Best of breed twice and 1 x Best in Show in very tough midwest Alpine Competition. She was the 11th place 3 yr old at the National show. Annie had a buck and doe by SGCH Redwood Hills Revolution Speed this Spring and the doeling will be available in 2024 Spotlight Sale! Annie was AI’d to Marran Jack Russell this year as we really wanted to cross the Handyman lines with the Yukon Jack lines and bring in the depth the Marran herd has so consistently added.

Xuna- Age 3 Spring Xuna Fall 2024
At Minnesota State Fair, 1st of 8 and RCH Sr. Milking doe of 60 senior does!
Finally a doe kid from Xiomara after 4 years of waiting! She was the 2nd place intermediate kid at the 2021 National Show As a yearling Xuna thrilled us with a 1st place milking yearling and Reserve Champion win over 60 senior does shown at our competitive MN State Fair! At the Bluff Country Classic, she was reserve to a finished champion, and should have a (restricted) leg. As a 2 yr old, she is still milking well-over 13 lbs this Spring and has been 3 x 1st, 1 x GCH, 1 RCH in her first shows. She was the GCH and BOB at the District 4 Alpine Specialty in June 2023. She placed 2nd of 16 at the Minnesota State Fair in a class of 16. She had a single doe this spring and took a while to come up in milk, but has settled in around 12 lbs. At the National Show, she looked the best she has all year and placed 6th in a large class of 3 year olds. She appraised Excellent in August and placed 3rd, behind her herdmate Anita at the State Fair. She finished her championship this fall going 3 x GCH at the Bluff Country Show. She has been bred to Marran Remembrance Recall this fall. Her twin bucks by Remembrance two years ago were so correct, and we love the dam, Rennet- who was Best Sr. Doe in Show at the 2024 Wisconsin State Fair and 7th place 4 year old at the National Show. Additionally her twin sister, Renner was named Best Sr. Doe in Show multiple times this Spring across the midwest Spring shows.

Avocado is extremely long, tall and level and easily earned her dry leg as kid. She freshed with a very well attached mammary with a smooth foreudder and high rear udder. Avocado has been shown 6 times as a yearling including the D4 Alpine Specialty in Little Falls, MN in June 2023 and has been 2 x 1st, 3 x 2nd to her herdmate and 1 x 3rd. Avocado developed mastitis in August and has become quite uneven in the 2nd half of the show season. We are looking forward to a second freshening. Avocado freshened with a single buck this spring but thankfully was even and her SCC stayed low under 200 all year. She also came up to 12 lbs and showed well all year and increased her appraisal score to 89 in August. She has two legs towards her championship. This fall she was AI’d to Pleasant Grove MFM Jamon, a linebreeding on GCH Pleasant Grove Zorro Jamboree(EX 92), one of our favorites in the Pleasant Grove herd for her structural correctness and beautiful mammary system. Additionally, the sire was a littermate to McCann Farm HWK Moira, a doe we owned, appraised 90 and excelled in production and her a beautiful long, dairy frame (see recent alpine reference does).

As a kid, Ampersand was shown just once and earned her dry leg. Ampersand has freshened with a well attached udder and has had a strong Spring showing, placing 4 x 1st in 6 shows She has very correct frame, wide, level rump, very correct feet and legs and overall is very balanced. She topped a large class of 11 of Milking yearlings at the Minnesota State Fair. In 2024, Ampersand really made long strides of improvement. As a yearling, Ampersand appraised GVGV 84 but with a second freshening, she appraised EEEE 90. Earlier this spring Ampersand finished her championship earning two legs, two RCH and one best in show. She placed 7th in a large two year class at nationals. Production wise , she has the highest butterfat of the Alpines at 4.1%, highest protein at 3.3% and carries an A allele for casein. We love her doeling by Kara Kahl Arul, Amberness, so much we repeated the breeding.

We are excited once again to have another Akebono daughter after she aborted her quads last year. Akabella is long, level and correct. With CH Windrush Farms Neo Isabelle (EX 92 EEEE) and Akebono as dam and grandam, we are really looking forward to seeing how this doeling develops and freshens. Akabella was 3rd of 17 at the Minnesota State Fair, At our fall show, Akebella earned her dry leg and went on to be named Best Junior Doe in Show over nearly 200 junior does! Akebella freshened with a beautifully attached mammary system, one that I can’t wait to see with another freshening. She typically stood 2nd to herdmate Arula, but won her class at the WI State Show over 10 yearlings twice. She was 14th at the National Show and 3rd at the MN State Fair. Her production slipped a bit towards the end of year and we are hoping she freshens with more than a single in the spring. She has been bred AI to multiple National Premier sire, SGCH Marran Rose’s Rochester. Her back up will be Early Rise Acres Side Hustle as we have kept an eye on her doeling from this Spring in a WI herd and she is beautiful.

1st place/1st udder yearling MN State Fair, 2024
1-04 VVVV 86
Arula is our last Arugula daughter as we lost Arugula following a very difficult kidding. She is extremely wide, correct and dairy. At her first show, she was named Reserve Jr. Champion. Arugula has been a tremendously consistent brood doe with six of her 8 milking daughters appraising 89 (GCH Aziz-FF) 90 (Annika), 90 (Aretha) 91 (Arywn), 91 (GCH-Aurora), and 94 (GCH Akebono). Additionally, her son, Atlas, sired the RCH Jr., 1st/1st udder milking yearling and 2nd/2nd udder 2 year old at the 2022 National Show. Lord Wimsey was an exceptional buck for the Roeburn herd, producing multiple EX 90+ and GCH daughters, being extremely consistent for General Appearance. We also retained her twin brother, Arul, and love his first kids. Arula was the 1st place Intermediate kid of 17 at the Minnesota State Fair. As a yearling, she has freshened with a typical Arugula daughter mammary of being well attached and capacious. She placed 8 x 1st, including at the MN State Fair. She was 8th place milking yearling at the National show and was our highest appraising yearling at VVVV 86. Arula had a beautiful buck by Invictus this Spring, so we repeated the cross in early October.
