We lost Arugula shortly after kidding this March at the age of 10.  What a girl. Arugula had one of the most correct mammary systems we have ever bred. She was also a strong milker, with 3 3000+ lactations and multiple daughters who 3000+ lactations. .  She won Best Udder in Show three times at the Minnesota State Fair as well as having won two udder placings at the National Show (1st Yearling, 3rd 3-yr old). She was an amazing brood doe,  being the dam of our National Champion, Best Udder and high appraising Akebono.  She has 3 daughters that have earned their championship, and 5 high appraising daughters with Akebono at EEEE 94!!, Aurora (91), Annika (90), Aziz (89 FF), Arwyn (88 yearling).  She has multiple sons working across the country working in show herds and commerical dairies and in Mexico.  One of her sons, Atlas, sired the 1st place milking yearling, RCH Jr, and 2nd/2nd udder 2 year old at the 2022 National show. Arugula was bred AI to Kickapoo Valley HL Lord Wimsy and gave us a final buck and doe, both of who will be retained. We still have semen available on one son Atari, and plan to collect her last son by Lord Whimsy this fall.

(D.O.B. 4/15/2022)

1-01 VVGV 86

Sire: Kara Kahl Akimoto
Dam:  Kara Kahl Vic’s Auriga

Eve was a keeper Akimoto yearling and  freshened in early May and did not make it to Spring shows. She milked extremely well-averaging 9-11 lbs.   She had a well shaped mammary, high rear udder and was my highest appraising Alpine Yearling at 86 and placed 5 times firs in 2023,   She was 3rd of 11 at the Minnesota State Fair. We unfortunately lost Eve in Kidding in March, though did save her three kids.

                                                  Aretha- Age 2 May 2023

Aretha at the Minnesota State Fair, placed 2nd of 8, behind Xuna

Arugula didn’t not settle AI this past fall, but we were happy to finally get her settled and are very pleased with her doeling by Invictus.  She is very correct on her feet and rear legs, something we always strive to improve.  She freshened with a beautifully attached mammary, typical of Arugula’s daughters, and at her first shows as a milker, she has placed 3 x 1st and 3 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, all to her herdmates.  She was 2nd of 8 at the Minnesota State Fair.  She had buck/doe twins  AI to Pleasant Grove Zen Wingding, the doe will be retained.  Aretha has really increased production this Spring to over 12 lbs and we are eager to show her.  At her first show, Aretha was 3 x 2nd of 11-placing second to her herdmates Xuna and Anita. In our fall show, Aretha topped a very competitive class of 7 2 year olds and went on to be named champion and Best of Breed! Aretha’s daughter by Pleasant Grove Zen Wingding was Jr. Champion at our Minnesota State Fair.  Aretha had a single buck again by Wingding this Spring.  Aretha will moved to a show and performance herd in Wisconsin this Spring and ended up going 1 x Best in Show at the Iowa State show in Colfax WI, was named the Premier Alpine Youth doe at the National show and she and her new owner were the winning pair in Sr. Showmanship at the 2024 National Show.  We were thrilled at how well she transitioned and the fantastic new home her owner has provided.

Arywn freshened with a mammary that is extremely similar to her dam, Arugula Super Saga doesn’t need much of an introduction, but he has sired multiple national class winners and sired the 2013 1st Sr. Get of Sire at Nationals.  He is a exceptionally strong buck for feet and legs and Arywn definitely fits that description.   She has been shown 4 x’s in 2021, placing 1st each time, except at Nationals where she was 9th place.  Arwyn is a smaller doe, but extremely correct, balanced and a beatifully attached, productive mammary.   Arywn had a buck and doeling by Akimoto this spring.  Her production in up over 10 lbs in this month of her 2nd lactation. Arwyn has placed first 3 times this year in tough Midwest competiton and earned a restricted leg, going reserve to a finished champion at the Bluff Country Classic. She has really kicked up production this year, milking 12+ lbs on her March test. We were excited for her high appraisal of VEEE 91.  She is moving on to a very good home with the Deidrago herd this summer and we are excited to see what she does for Megan.

Moira from rear (on right)

June 2022-3 months freshIn the fall of 2021, we welcomed McCann Farm HWK Moira Rose to the herd and we couldn’t be more excited. Moira’s dam, is one of my favorite does and competitors in the ring, GCH McCann Farm Fern, 4-04 EEEE 92, 2nd/2nd udder 3 yr old at the 2018 National show and on top of it all produced over 4000 lbs in her 3rd lactation. Moira’s sire, Kickapoo Valley Proud Hawkeye (3-05 VEE 90) sired two National show class winners this year, 1st/1st udder 3 yr old and the 1st place Sr. Yearling, both members of the Haycreeks herd, and he is on the Elite buck list. Moira has freshened with a very well attached, productive mammary system.  We are excited to see how she matures. At her 1st shows, she was 1 x 1st, 3 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd. At the Minnesota State Fair, she placed 1st/1st udder of 16 does! This Spring, she has placed 4 x 1st, 1 RCH, 1 x Alpine Best Udder.  She has tremendous production topping over 16 lbs this Spring.

We love Moira, but were contacted by a previous buyer, who shows, appraises and is on milk test looking for a competitive, mature show doe that could be their daughter’s showmanship doe and Moira is perfect.  A dream to show, and clip, we are excited to see how they match up.  We do plan to show Moira through this show season.

Ayda has a beautiful front end, a nice dairy wedge to her and strong feet and legs.  She has a very soft, capacious mammary with an especially long and wide fore udder.  Ayda freshened as a two year old and more than doubled her production with milking more than 14 lbs a day.  She has been shown 6 times this spring and we were thrilled when finished her championship is strong midwest competition. She placed 8th in a large 2 year old class at the National Show and appraised Excellent 90 in August.  Ayda had a beautfiul doeling in March by Akimoto we are retaining.  Ayda joined the Virden Creek herd in April 2022 as they were looking to start into Alpines and looking for a strong foundation doe.  We know she will continue to reach her full potential in their herd and will be eager to see how she does for their herd!.

Akeelah is our first Manny milking daughter and our 1st Akebono milking daughter.  She is extremely long, tall, level, and her mammary is as well-attached and productive, milking 3000 lbs after a single buck in 2020.   Akeelah freshened with triplets in 2021 and is milking at peak 17.8 lbs this year. At her first show, she finished her championship, placing 2 x GCH and 1 x RCH in a large, competitive Alpine show.  Unfortunately, Akeelah has been dealing with a back/hip injury for the past couple of years due to a hard hit and since 2021 Nationals it has impacted her body and production, resulting in a low appraisal score of 84 that the appraiser told us the score was not reflective of her quality, more her current condition.  We hope some chiropractic and/or accupunture appointments will help resolve the issue.  We settled Akeelah to Pleasant Grove RR All Star Jam, a Rochester son from a EEEE 91 dam, we saw in person and absolutely loved for her mammary and correctness. Due to her chronic hip issue, Akeelah has been rehomed with someone who can provide regular care to hopefully improve her mobility.  She did give us a beautiful doeling by Jam, who will be retained.

Xiomara is one of the most correct does in our barn.  We long admired the Samurai offspring in the Chateau Briant herd for their size, scale, and beautiful productive mammary systems when we first saw them at the 2014 National show.  Xiomara is strong in all areas of the scorecard, earned our highest appraising score ever on a yearling. .  She was bred to Aizumi and gave us a lovely single doeling, however, she was slow to come into milk and is milking just 9 lbs this Spring. She did still win her class at the Minnesota State Fair and finish championship in the fall of 2021.  Xiomara again had a single doe in 2022 by Akimoto and again, did not come into much milk.  Due to having two daughters and focusing on our younger stock, Xiomara has been sold and can hopefully be a strong brood doe and show doe for years to come for her new owner.

Amazelle is the product of a fun AI breeding we thought up based on the last time we used Elijah semen (in 2009) and had one of the prettiest does we have bred, Kara Kahl Elijah So Rare (1st place dry yearling 2010 National, EX 91).  Elijah throws a long lean neck and frame as well as a nice dairy wedge.   Amazelle has freshened will a very nicely attached mammary. She had a health scare a month into freshening, which has decreased her production and she is immature  but we are excited to see her mature.  Amazelle has been shown 7 times and placed 3 x 2nd to herdmate Arwyn and 4 times 1st at a separate show.  She was the 18th place milking yearling at Nationals.  Amazelle had triplets in 2022 and has doubled her milk production, milking over 14.5 lbs on her 2nd test.  We retained her doeling by Marran Rose’s Rememberance.  We had a former buyer contact us looking for a nice milker to be a foundation to their herd and we decided Amazelle could meet that need for her.  We wish her the best with Amazelle, we think she got a good one!

Unfortunately, the week before her 1st show, she need nearly 20 stitches after getting caught in a fence.  Nationals was her first show and she placed 16th.  She has really maintained her production and we were pleased she placed 2 x 1st among her herdmates and others at the Bluff Country show in mid-September. Auriga had a beautiful doeling by Akimoto in April.  She will be joining the Deidrago herd in June as an addition to their growing Alpine herd and know she will thrive under Megan’s care.  We are excited to see how she does for her new owner. We are retaining her doeling by Akimoto.

She freshened with a buck and a doe by Tempo Aquila Handyman. Shown 7 times this Spring in 2021, Annika placed 3 x 1st, 1 x RCH, 3 x 2nd and 1 x 3rd.  Annika was sold to a wonderful show home in 2021, a hard one to let go, but knowing she went to a great home and knowing we have a lovely daughter, make it easier.

Aware made her mark in innumerable ways in our herd and in other herd across the Midwest.  She was a tall, elegant doe with a beautiful mammary system.  She was one of our most accomplished does in the show ring, winning Best in Show at least 6 times over her career, and placing third in the aged doe class at the 2012 National Show.  Her daughters Ajuja and Arugula are beautiful does in their own right, and Aware’s bucks have made a significant genetic impact, including her son Antonio who we used in our herd.  We will miss her greatly, but know that her legacy lives on through her progeny.

A & W was timeless, very correct, particularly on her feet and legs, with a mammary system well supported all the way around.  She was 2nd/2nd udder Age doe at the 2017 National Show and appraised EEEE 91 in late September 2017.  We were devastated to lose A&W this spring shortly after she kidded with twin does and was looking better than ever.  We treasure the final doe kid she gave us (we sold the other doe to a wonderful home at Western Pearl), Kara Kahl Argento Amazonia and her beautiful two year old daughter, Kara Kahl MRR Antonia.

Avila has continued to matured nicely this year and among tough midwest competition has stood in the front or top 3 three does in all clubs show of the 2017 season. Avila placed 4th in a competive 3 yr old class at the MN State Fair and 9th in over 30 does at the 2017 National Show.  She earned her third CH leg at the Bluff Country Show in September, She consistently has the highest butterfat of all milking does in our herd and has been milking 10-12 lbs consistently since March. Like, her dam,  she has taken some time to mature, but is continues to deepen out.  Avila joined Argento in the Hurricane PM herd this summer.

Siri was our largest Alpine  by far. Her long, upstanding profile is complimented by an attractive, well attached mammary system.  We also love her sharp, clean front end.   Siri milking daughter, Siren, appraised 88 this fall and is an excellent milker with well attached mammary.  Siri, did not disappoint us with a 7th place finish in a very competitive 5-6 year old class. She also topped the age doe class at the 2017 MN State Fair.  Notably,  in 2015, Siri finished her Championship in strong fashion winning GCH Alpine at the 2015 Iowa State Fair and two weeks later was reserve champion to herdmate Xercise at the 2015 MN State Fair. Siri has been sold in 2018 to Sonja Kajewski.

Ajuja possesses an extremely dairy profile and is very correct on her feet and legs.  She is also a star in the area of milk production, consistently outpacing many of our younger does in the milk bucket.  Ajuja’s milking yearling daughter by Nodaway Must B Fate, Kara-Kahl Fate Avila has freshened with a very promising mammary system. Ajuja was bred to Manny last fall and though has been sold, we finally got a doe kid after 4 years of bucks.  We have also continued to use her son, Argento, a 3/4 brother to our yearling, Akebono, after loving the length, levelness and dairy strength of his first kids.

Xercise’s elegant frame is complimented by a fancy mammary, a definite throwback to Hoach’s Revolution, a buck well-known for his consistency with strong udders. In 2015, she was GCH and BOB Alpine at the very competitive Minnesota State Fair in 2015. Xercise was sold this spring to a wonderful home, but we have semen of her son, Xuberant by Marran Roses Remembrance and we have her daughter, Xiomara, who we love as a first freshening yearling.

We lost Arya unexpectedly when she became ill at home as we were away at the National show.  It was a huge loss, as we felt Arya was one of our most correct does, with a lovely mammary.  We collected her son, Art Thief, who is collected and has thrown excellent feet and legs and nicely attached mammary systems.

Amari is a repeat breeding that produced Akeelah.  She has a very well-attached mammary system, with an especially long fore udder.  Amari unfortunately had an injury over the winter and was no longer a show doe, so she has been sold to a milk home.  Thankfully, Amari gave us a beautiful doeling, Amidala from Sunshine Rehna Reign.  His dam Rehna was the twin sister to our buck Sunshine Rehma Regard.  We are excited to continue to incorporate the timeless Rehma genetics into our herd.
